Manchester United could live to regret their failed pursuit of Moises Caicedo after opting against a deal in 2020/2021.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils were in talks with the youngster when he was playing for Independiente del Valle. They had discussed a five-year deal and agreed a price tag of €5 million, with United holding ‘full control’ over their approach to bring Caicedo to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are in direct contact with the agents of Moises Caicedo (Indep. del Valle).
The agreement on personal terms [5 years] won’t be a problem. €5m price tag.#MUFC ‘control’ the situation by weeks and will decide soon wether to complete the deal or not. 🔴🇪🇨

However, they didn’t. The board ultimately made the decision against signing the midfielder, who then completed a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, where his career has only continued its upward trajectory and his development has continued to flourish.
After being a standout performer for the Seagulls and playing a crucial role in their European qualification last term, the 21-year-old has become the subject of interest for several clubs across Europe. Funnily enough, the Reds were considering reigniting their interest earlier this summer – wouldn’t it have been the most United-esque transfer to turn down a £4m deal and a year later, sign the player for around £100m?
Caicedo to complete Liverpool move today
Now, the only time Caicedo will be walking out the Stretford End tunnel will be in the red of United’s fiercest rivals, as Liverpool have today agreed a British record transfer fee of £110m to acquire the Ecuadorian talent just days ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Given his high-profile switch, the United board will likely be keeping a close eye on how he fares in Merseyside to determine how much they rue the conclusion of their failed Caicedo pursuit.
