Erik ten Hag addresses Harry Kane transfer after United pass on proven Premier League goalscorer

Although we firmly believed Harry Kane was Manchester United’s No. 1 target at the beginning of the summer, Erik ten Hag sounds satisfied with how the transfer window to date.

Harry Kane is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich, while United have added three new players to their squad. First came Mason Mount, then Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund was announced last week.

When asked about losing Kane ahead of the new season following a transfer update from Fabrizio Romano this morning, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said: “The deal is imminent, we are preparing to move forward without Harry.”

Ten Hag suggested United stuck to their strategy in moving for Hojlund over Kane.

United were discouraged from bidding for Kane due to Daniel Levy’s reluctance to do a deal with another Premier League club. The last thing the Reds wanted was another saga dragged out for an entire transfer window ala Frenkie de Jong.

Although Kane entered the final year of his contract, United never submitted a bid for the England captain this summer. They looked elsewhere even though Ten Hag listed Kane as a main target.

“I don’t think that I have to go into that discussion or give an opinion about that,” Ten Hag said at his press conference when asked about Kane, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “We are professional, the processes we do are really careful.

“We consider a lot of things but finally we make decisions, we don’t take decisions overnight, there is a strategy in every decision behind and we are happy with the squad we have behind us now.

“We have chosen a striker and we are really happy with our choice. He (Kane)’s a great striker, clear. A goal-maker and apart from that he has all the conditions and abilities that you want to see in a striker.

“It’s a miss for the Premier League, absolutely.”

Ten Hag recently questioned whether Kane could become the greatest striker to play in the Premier League. Now it looks like that won’t ever become a debate.

Kane will enjoy winning Bundesliga titles instead.
