Harry Maguire set to be paid off to leave Manchester United

Harry Maguire is set for a big payday even if he earns less at his next club (likely to be West Ham).

The Manchester United centre-back is on the verge of joining West Ham, after the two clubs agreed a £30 million deal in principle on Wednesday.

According to The Sun, Maguire has been offered a £6m payout to leave Manchester United this summer.

It is inevitable that if Maguire completes a transfer to West Ham, he will not earn the same salary (£190,000-per-week) as he receives at United.

The centre-back must accept that one way or other.

However, Maguire is believed to be receiving £6m to offset the deficit he will suffer.

While it feels like United are having their pants pulled down, I’m sure the club has done the figures and are confident that it would be more expensive to keep Maguire for the two-years that remain on his contract.

The report adds that the 30-year-old has accepted his time was up at United after being stripped of the captaincy, with the armband handed to Bruno Fernandes.

It was a shame to see Maguire jeered at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday. No matter what mistakes he made in the past, he doesn’t deserve that level of abuse from his own fans. Especially when he has never disrespected the club.
