Erik ten Hag has reiterated the need for squad depth as Manchester United prepare for the forthcoming 2023/24 campaign.

The Red Devils’ squad has already been bolstered by the additions of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, making them, on paper, a significantly stronger side than that of last season.

There could be more action yet to come, too, as West Ham United are in active pursuit of Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, the latter of which is open to making the switch in a bid to secure more game time.

Should United oversee their exits, Ten Hag would then likely demand replacements through the door as soon as possible. Potential options include Sofyan Amrabat and Jean-Clair Tobido.

The Dutchman weighed in on the matter via Football Daily, saying: “We need all positions doubled because the number of games we have to cover [play], you need it – you need the competition. You always have to deal with suspensions, injuries, when the form of certain players is not what you expect – you have to deal with it.

“Also, from a tactical perspective, we need double positioning. I need good players but also every player needs perspective to play.”
