Manchester United are planning to open talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka over a contract extension when the transfer window closes, as per Mail Sport.

The defender has a year remaining on his current deal and United have the option to trigger a 12-month extension during that period, however, they’re seemingly keen on tieing down his long-term future now.

New terms would also see Wan-Bissaka awarded a pay rise on his current £100,000-a-week wages.

This time last year, fans were expecting to see the 25-year-old sold upon Erik ten Hag’s arrival. The manager had a clear first-choice in the form of Diogo Dalot and prior to the World Cup in December 2022, Wan-Bissaka made just one four-minute cameo across all competitions.

During the tournament, Dalot sustained an injury while on international duty with Portugal, leaving Ten Hag no choice but to turn to the only other senior right-back in the squad.

Wan-Bissaka was then given a consistent run of games and quickly proved himself as more than capable to start week in, week out. He worked his way up the manager’s estimations and by the end of the term, was perhaps the more favoured option.
