West Ham expected to improve approach for outcast Manchester United duo

West Ham United will reportedly reignite their pursuit of Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire after Manchester United rebuffed their opening proposal.

That’s according to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports News, who confirmed West Ham’s interest this afternoon.

The Irons saw their £20 million offer for Maguire swiftly rejected last month and were in talks with the Red Devils over a potential deal for McTominay, though an agreement is yet to be reached.

It is believed that the London club were deterred by United’s £40m asking price for the midfielder but remain keen to find a resolution in talks as they look to adequately replace Declan Rice, following his £105m switch to Arsenal.

Reds face uncertain futures

Both Maguire, 30, and McTominay, 26, know that game time will be limited next term after a season in which they combined for just 18 Premier League starts (McTominay 10 and Maguire eight).

However, Erik ten Hag is in no rush to sell them and certainly not if the right bid doesn’t come in. He views the duo as reliable, senior figures to call upon across the campaign and given United’s inclusion in the Champions League, depth across the squad will only benefit the manager.
