Manchester United are open to shifting Anthony Martial this summer if the right bid comes in.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano in his Daily Briefing with CaughtOffside, saying: “At the moment, Anthony Martial is staying at Manchester United but I’d consider him in the same range of players as Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire – if he gets an important proposal, he could leave.

“Otherwise, he’ll stay and be part of Ten Hag’s rotation squad. That’s the feeling around Martial now.”

It’ll come as no surprise to the Old Trafford faithful that Martial isn’t high in Ten Hag’s estimations, as the manager simply cannot rely on him. Last season, Martial started just 10 Premier League games and made a total of six starts in the remaining three competitions.

His injury record across the 2022/2023 campaign was the worst it’s ever been since he signed for the club and when Cristiano Ronaldo departed in January, he was Ten Hag’s only out-and-out striker. Wout Weghorst was acquired on loan for the remainder of the season but he failed to register a league goal throughout his time as a Red.

Hojlund leapfrogs Martial in pecking order

Now though, Rasmus Hojlund’s arrival has changed things for United. The 20-year-old will be looking to further develop his goalscoring abilities in rotation with Marcus Rashford, who has grown accustomed to leading the line when called upon.

It consequently leaves Martial viewed even less favourably, especially considering he’s missed all of the pre-season tour and fixtures with a hamstring injury. It’s likely better for all parties if the Frenchman moves on this summer, but whether or not any club would be willing to pay a reasonable price for him remains to be seen.
