Manchester United are waiting to see if West Ham United will return with an improved bid for Harry Maguire.

The Irons saw a £20 million bid swiftly rebutted by the Red Devils last month after being linked with Maguire for numerous weeks.

It’s clear to see why United were insulted by the offer; despite Maguire’s fluctuating form at club level, he is an established England international whose form has never faltered for his national team, and he comes with years of Premier League experience.

His future at Old Trafford remains uncertain heading into the forthcoming campaign and it’ll most likely be that way until the window closes in September. It seems as though he is not actively pushing for a move – even after being stripped of the captaincy.

Last season, the 30-year-old’s game time was reduced significantly – he was granted just eight Premier League starts across the term and started a total of eight games in the remaining three competitions. Reports suggest that Maguire is willing to stay and fight for his place but barring any injuries, he currently falls behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and even Luke Shaw in the pecking order.

Romano on Maguire

Fabrizio Romano shared his understanding of the Englishman’s situation in his Daily Briefing with CaughtOffside, saying: “Manchester United are waiting to see if West Ham will return with a new offer for Maguire, but what I know for sure is that £20 million / £25 million will not be enough.”

  1. It’s only clear to see to those of a Manchester Inited persuasion
No one else is going to pay £40,000,000 for a player who made 8 starts last season whilst drawing a salary approaching £200,000 per week.
that he continues to play for England is more about Southgate than Maguires ability.
United need the money,, you were rinsed by Leicester, pants pulled down in public big time.
Expect a deal late on in the window for an undisclosed fee to save your blushes.

  2. Man Utd are having a laugh thinking that any club would pay 40 million for a has been that needs to improve his game he has had it made clear that his time at Man Utd is running out stripped of the captaincy left to rot on the sidelines he should consider himself lucky that West Ham are offering a way out and a chance to play regularly so boosting his chances of remaining a England squad player and he has the cheek to slag off West Ham stating that he is to good to play for us question should be is he good enough to even be brought to the London stadium and play for us personally I don’t think he is and we should let him rot at Man Utd and turn our attention to someone who wants to play for us

  3. Forget about magurie he’s passed his best if Man Utd don’t want him then why should any club in the premiership want him best place for him would be a non league team it’s the only way he’s going to look any good on the pitch he’s lost the captaincy at man united and has basically no hope of making the team for any game and he can expect to be frozen out of the England squad given his attitude towards West Ham he deserves to be treated as a outcast all he can do is pick up his large paypacket and fade away serves him right

  4. You can see why Moyse wants him and Ward-Prowse though. Concede 70% possession in the game and rely on W-P delivering a set piece to Maguire’s head. We’re playing in the style of Bolton and Stoke and look where they are now. I think Moyse got us out of a hole twice but he’s not the future. Give a good drink as compensation and say goodbye.
