Rasmus Hojlund makes Jonny Evans admission after Manchester United unveiling

Rasmus Hojlund became Manchester United’s third signing of the summer earlier this weekend after a deal to sign the Danish international was finally completed following lengthy negotiations with Atalanta.

The big-money deal which saw him switch the Serie A for the Premier League was officially completed on Saturday, with the young forward then unveiled on the Old Trafford pitch moments before the friendly against Lens.

Hojlund’s debut has, however, been delayed after it emerged that he had sustained an injury whilst taking part in pre-season preparations with Atalanta.

Hojlund grew up as a Manchester United supporter and upon joining the Reds, he was quizzed on the players he enjoyed watching, surprisingly naming Jonny Evans as that one player.

“Of course, Jonny Evans and he’s here now! I also got to play against him with the national team but yeah, all the guys in recent times. Literally everybody,” Hojlund told the official Manchester United website when quizzed on the matter.

As things stand, Evans is still not a United player but he is currently partaking in pre-season preparations in a bid to regain match fitness.

There have been suggestions that Ten Hag could offer the Northern Ireland international a short-term contract but with eight days remaining until the Premier League curtain-raiser against Wolves, he will be ineligible to feature against Julen Lopetegui’s side.

Should he seal a remarkable return to the club after leaving in 2015, he would become United’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount.

  1. I still think giving Jonny Evans a one-year contract would be a good risk mitigation measure. After an injury or two, and after Maguire has screwed up for the umpteenth time, we don’t want to have an Agatha Christie moment where we wonder, “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?”.
