Manchester United faced competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in their pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund.

Thankfully, the Red Devils came out on top in the race for Hojlund’s signature, but The Athletic has confirmed that their fellow Premier League rivals were also interested.

Splashing the cash is now familiar territory for the Blues since Todd Boehly took over in May 2022. In fact, the American billionaire’s spending totalled a staggering £785 million after the London club completed the signing of defender Axel Disasi this week.

State-owned PSG also aren’t afraid to part with their cash for the players they want, which has consequently led to Hojlund’s price being as high as it is. Certain supporters and neutrals have claimed that United overpaid for the 20-year-old (£72m including add-ons) but judging by The Athletic’s report, they simply had to outbid the other clubs to acquire Erik ten Hag’s priority target.

Hojlund injured for opening matchdays

The Old Trafford faithful will have to wait a few weeks to see their new frontman in action as he’ll spend the first matchdays of the campaign watching on from the sidelines, however, they’re certainly eager to witness his first minutes as a Red.
