Erik ten Hag was faced with the task of refreshing the Manchester United squad when he took over in 2022 and some players have thrived since his arrival.
Others were told to leave the club and some players needed to earn Ten Hag’s confidence. Diogo Dalot was certainly part of the latter group as he fought to resurrect his career going into the final 12 months of his contract.
Dalot enjoyed a stunning first half of the 2022/23 season and subsequently earned himself a starting place in the Portugal national team, ousting Manchester City star Joao Cancelo from the right-back position.
Since then, Aaron Wan-Bissaka returned from injury to challenge the 24-year-old but Dalot recently signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford.
Speaking recently, the former Porto star praised Ten Hag for the impact the Dutchman has had on his career over the last 12 months.
“‘He’s been having a really good impact on my career, especially since he came in, he gives me a lot of confidence,” Dalot is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.
“The way that he wants to play suits the way that I want to play football, as well, and it’s been a pleasure to work with him, he is a very demanding manager.
“He pays attention to the details and I like that. It’s been a joy to play and be coached by him.”
As things stand, it looks like Ten Hag will kickstart the season with Wan-Bissaka as his first-choice right-back but there is not a lot between the two players.
