Luke Shaw has given insight into the squad’s morale ahead of the new campaign.

Manchester United are preparing for their opening Premier League fixture in just two weeks, when they’ll face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Monday, August 14.

The Red Devils will be looking to build on a promising season under Erik ten Hag – the first of his tenure in M16 – after ending a six-year trophy drought and booking their spot in the Champions League for the forthcoming term.

They’ve welcomed two new recruits through the doors at Carrington so far in the forms of Mason Mount and Andre Onana, with Rasmus Hojlund expected to complete his move from Atalanta in the coming days. All in all, the transfer window has given supporters high expectations.

The players have been putting in the work over the past couple of months and during their pre-season matches, and Shaw has insisted that he and his fellow Reds are raring to go for opening day.

Shaw lifts the lid

He told MUTV: “I think we’re all really excited, I think we all feel really good. [It’s all been] very positive and of course, after ending the season in disappointment [losing in the FA Cup final], I think we’ve got a lot to improve on this season. Our aim from the start of the season has to be winning every single competition we’re in and I feel like if we keep adding more strength to our squad, then why not?”

Regarding the addition of his fellow England international and close friend Mount, he continued: “It’s quite strange, to be honest, but now I’m really happy to have him here. I think it’s been quite nice for the new lads to come in because sometimes in the past they’ve come in after the tour and I think the tour is a good time to come [into the squad] because we’re all together a lot.

“So it’s nice for them to be with the lads and the staff and integrate and get to know everyone a bit more than when you’re just at the training ground. So it’s been really good, really positive and I’m looking forward to one more game.”
