We all woke up to the disappointing news that teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will miss the remainder of pre-season and the first part of the 2023/24 season as a result of an ankle injury.
The 18-year-old was enjoying an impressive summer which saw Erik ten Hag continue to select him for matches on tour. It was even more evident when the the Dutchman started Mainoo against Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, Mainoo didn’t last very long on the pitch against the Spanish giants and had to be replaced by Christian Eriksen. He sustained an injury just 3 minutes in and has eventually seen leaving the stadium on crutches.
Mainoo thanked fans for their support on social media on Friday evening.
Manchester United confirmed this morning that Mainoo will fly home from the US and that he will miss the start of the new season.
#mufc say Kobbie Mainoo is out for ‘the first part’ of the forthcoming season with an ankle injury. Suggestion is he could be sidelined for two months.

Fans have taken to social media to show their disappointment at the news because I think we all fancy Mainoo to get some minutes in the senior side throughout the campaign. It’s been clear that Ten Hag wouldn’t entertain the idea of a loan move for the midfield ace.
Gutted….

It's a huge blow to us and the young promising lad

Gutted for Kobbie Mainoo 💔
Was looking so good playing with some of our first team players. Hope the injury doesn't take anything from his game and he comes back stronger. Speedy recovery ♥️ pic.twitter.com/1wq2uS8CYC

Very disappointing.
But on the other hand, it shows that Mainoo was really in ETH's plans for this season, which I find very positive.
One of the biggest Man United academy talents in the last decade.
Speedy recovery, Kobbie. Your time will come. https://t.co/zVJHWFUpie

Absolutely devastated for the lad. A freak injury of a player falling and his full weight dropping on his ankle. This is just a delay because this season is Mainoo’s breakthrough season but we will miss not having him there. Come back stronger Kobbie lad. https://t.co/1AMxtjGB1F
