Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop was completely vilified for his actions that saw Paul Mullin injured in last week’s pre-season friendly against Wrexham in San Diego.

Bishop clattered into the Wrexham talisman and punctured the striker’s lung.

Mullin was down receiving treatment for some time, but after that Bishop was roundly booed by fans in the stadium.

That’s all part of football, but Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson went up a gear by telling the youth team keeper to “steer clear” of Wrexham’s staff and players.

Bishop, who is being linked with a move away to Sunderland, apologised in the immediate aftermath.

Reports now suggest he was later contacted by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, co-owner of Wrexham.

According to The Athletic, Reynolds messaged the 23-year-old to thank him for the way he handled the incident and wished him well for the future.

Reynolds was presumably ashamed of how Parkinson reacted to the incident, especially given how hard Wrexham would have worked to get a pre-season match this summer with Manchester United.
