Manchester United negotiating obligation deal for Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson has been linked with a return to Nottingham Forest and Manchester United are receptive to negotiating a loan deal with an obligation to buy the goalkeeper.

The one condition United have, as per the Manchester Evening News, is the Reds want to bank the fee by the January transfer window.

Forest’s initial proposal to loan Henderson, 26, was rejected by United and unsurprisingly so. They know what he’s about and we gain nothing from sending him there for 12 months.

However, it is understood that Forest are cautious about re-signing Henderson as he has not played since January due to a thigh injury. He hasn’t even been used on pre-season.

The goalkeeper had surgery in May but is training with United ahead of the new season, with the squad in the United States. The first team returns next week, but Henderson would return quicker if Forest are able to make advances in the coming days.

Forest, who are in the Premier League for a second consecutive season, have suggested Henderson play 30 games for a fee to be triggered but that would be too late for United since clubs have 38 Premier League fixtures in a season.

United need to factor in that Henderson could be rested for cup games at the City Ground.
