Erik ten Hag voices concern over Manchester United’s finishing amid striker hunt

Erik ten Hag press conference

Erik ten Hag is adamant about adding a striker to his squad this summer.

Manchester United sustained a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the early hours of Thursday morning, with Jude Bellingham and Joselu securing the pre-season victory for the European giants.

The match again highlighted how desperate the club is for a clinical forward after several chances failed to find the back of the net. Whilst such results aren’t overly important at this stage of the season, the issue will only rear its head when the new campaign kicks off, meaning it has to be solved now.

It’s looking increasingly likely that the next addition will be Rasmus Hojlund; personal terms are already agreed and United submitted a verbal proposal of €50 million plus €10m in add-ons to Atalanta on Wednesday. But until he’s pictured holding up the shirt and putting pen to paper, the manager will continue to voice his concerns.

Ten Hag’s frustrations continue

He said post-match (via the Man Utd website): “I think we need more players who are capable to be in one-on-one. And we had the situations, one-on-ones. I thought Scott McTominay [had a] one-on-one situation [and] Alejandro Garnacho [had a] one-on-one situation and, from these situations, you have to score.”
