Manchester United schedule more direct talks with Atalanta over Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are finally looking to speed up their search for a new striker, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims United have scheduled another round of talks with Atalanta fro Hojlund.

It’s been clear all summer that after Harry Kane became an unlikely recruit for the Reds – due to Daniel Levy’s reluctance to negotiate a deal – Erik ten Hag switched his attention to Hojlund.

Hojlund, who has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Italy following a spell at Sturm Graz in Austria, is renowned as one of the most promising prospects in football. That’s why United aren’t the only top European club chasing his signature this summer.

Atalanta shelled out a reported €17 million for the then 19-year-old striker. Hojlund managed ten goals and four assists from 34 appearances in Serie A.

Romano adds the talks will happen after United submit their €60m ‘package’ deal, which consists of €50m as a fixed fee and €10m in add-ons.

It has been well documented for some time that Hojlund is prioritising a move to United over Paris-Saint Germain. Romano suggests the Ligue 1 champions are still pushing but their current bid falls short of Atalanta’s expectations.

This brings us onto another Hojlund update this evening from Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol. He suggests PSG will not return with a second bid for the Denmark international if Atalanta decide to reject their opening offer. Considering Hojlund has already agreed on terms with United, I think we could see a positive conclusion by next week.

Atalanta – as much as United – want to move with their preparations for the new season. It makes sense for all parties to reach an agreement soon.

Ten Hag should demand to have it done in time for one of next weekend’s two friendly matches.
