Mikael Silvestre gives verdict on Rasmus Hojlund transfer pursuit

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has given his verdict on which striker the Reds should sign this summer.

The two main targets have been Harry Kane and Rasmus Hojlund as Erik ten Hag looks for a centre-forward.

Talks are ongoing with Atalanta but the Serie A side allegedly want €70m, but United are willing to offer €50m plus £60m for the Denmark international.

Silvestre would prefer to see United sign Kane, who he describes as the finished article, whereas Hojlund still has a lot to prove at the highest level.

Speaking to GGRecon (H/t Manchester Evening News), Silvestre said: “Harry Kane and Rasmus Hojlund are two different propositions for Manchester United. You have the finished article and superstar in Harry Kane and then you have the young, up and coming talent in Hojlund. These two players are not in the same bracket and I believe the number one target should be Harry Kane and the second choice target should be Hojlund.”

I think if everyone at United had a choice between Kane and Hojlund, the vast majority would opt for England’s all-time record scorer.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is bound to make that difficult, even though Kane has one-year left to run on his current deal.

Spending north of £100m on Kane makes no sense when United could sign him for free next summer.
