Erik ten Hag reiterates desire to sign a striker but is frustrated at the delay

Manchester United know that a new striker is a non-negotiable in this transfer window.

There have been continued links with forwards across the summer so far but with the new season just three weeks away, the Red Devils are no better off in the No.9 department.

As well as that, Anthony Martial is yet to feature in any pre-season games so far due to the hamstring injury he sustained on the final day of the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign. He will return to full training this week, but the club are proceeding with caution over his fitness after a term in which he spent the majority of his time on the sidelines.

Despite links with the likes of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, it looks most likely as it stands that Rasmus Hojlund will be Ten Hag’s striker addition. Atalanta are expecting a bid from United by this Thursday, however, the board are unwilling to pay above the £60 million mark for the 20-year-old.

Ten Hag’s No.9 woes continue for now

When asked about any potential new arrival in time for the opening league fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ten Hag responded (via the Man Utd website): “I think what I can say is we will do everything what’s in our power to get that done. And, to me, yeah, as soon as possible. How early, the better, because we have to integrate them in the team, in the way of play. So, in an ideal situation, he was already here. But you’re not always getting ideal situations as a manager and you have to deal with the situation.”
