Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has given his verdict on the latest developments at the club.
The Red Devils’ all-time top goalscorer is currently managing over in the MLS with D.C United.
Supporters are expecting Rooney to return to England to continue his managerial career at some point, having managed Derby County from 2020-2022, but he’s certainly enjoying his time in the States for now.
He was quizzed on the current situation at his former club, with whom he lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League – among many other trophies.
Rooney has his say
The Englishman said: “I think [Erik] ten Hag has done really well since he came in last season and you can see he’s tried to create a squad and a mentality with the signings he made last season, and also again with what they’re trying to do this year.”
He then touched on the latest Red to don his iconic No.10 shirt, Marcus Rashford, after it was confirmed the forward had penned a five-year contract extension earlier today.
“I think Marcus Rashford is an incredible talent, I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal. I think the next five years, for him, are gonna be real important in his legacy, if you like.
“Because he can score a lot of goals, but if he really wants to go to that level which [Kylian] Mbappe and [Erling] Haaland are at, I think he has to be the man to get Manchester United back to winning trophies and league titles. I hope he can do that.”
