Louis Saha believes United will score more goals after goalkeeper signing

Louis Saha is encouraged by the potential transfer of Andre Onana to Manchester United.

The Inter Milan goalkeeper, who joined the Italian giants from Ajax a year ago, appears to be on the verge of joining United.

Erik ten Hag is in the market to find a replacement for David de Gea, and it looks like he could get his primary target in Onana.

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha says it was sad to see David de Gea leave without saying a proper goodbye to fans after 12-years.

Speaking to Betfred, Saha said (via Manchester Evening News): “I can understand that but at the same time, player’s need to remain focused on their own careers. The treatment was specific to the goalkeeping position and it was sad to see how David left Manchester United because he’s a legend of the club, but Erik ten Hag had to make a decision and he’s shown that he can make strong decisions, which is a difficult thing to do. This situation with David is specific and it doesn’t mean that the situation is going to be similar for other players who’re renegotiating their contracts.

“The main problems, in terms of management, are at the very top of the club. Erik ten Hag is trying to move the club forward and do the best business possible for his team with the tools at his disposal.”

Meanwhile, Saha is confident that Onana can be a success at United. He accepts that mistakes will happen because he is a risk-taking keeper, comfortable with the ball at his feet, but ultimately Saha believes United will score more goals as a result.

“I think so. He’s a top goalkeeper that’s eager to improve and he’s 27 years old, so he’s got plenty of experience but isn’t old at all for a goalkeeper. The manager is looking to play out from the back and see how he can disrupt the opposition. I believe Onana will be very important for Manchester United. Of course, all goalkeepers make mistakes that lead to goals but in André’s case, the team is going to score more goals because of him. It takes time for players to adjust to a new league, but I’m certain it’s going to be a perfect fit as he was able to play in a very strictly structured Inter Milan team and was still able to revolutionise the squad with his forward thinking, so I have no doubt that he’s going to do the same at Manchester United.”

As a result of Onana joining, we can expect better build-up play from the back. The Cameroonian is quick to launch attacks which will benefit our wide attacks like Marcus Rashford and Antony.

Onana should also speed up the transition process because that was never one of De Gea’s strong points.
