Edwin van der Sar’s wife, Annemarie, has shared an update on the former goalkeeper’s condition following his cerebral haemorrhage.
The statement comes courtesy of his former club Ajax and was shared this evening, four days on from the news of his brain bleed.
Update on behalf of Annemarie van der Sar in Croatia:
‘Edwin is still in the intensive care unit, but is stable. He is not in life-threatening danger. Every time we get to visit him, he’s communicative. We have to wait patiently to see how his situation will develop.’ pic.twitter.com/8avJQ5yZj3

Van der Sar, 52, suffered the haemorrhage whilst holidaying in Split, Croatia and was quickly transported to the hospital via helicopter, where he was then placed under continuous doctor supervision in Intensive Care.
The Eredivisie side showed their support for the Dutchman when they wore shirts with his name and number (‘Van der Sar 1’) on for their pre-season friendly on Saturday. He made 312 appearances for Ajax in his career and is regarded as a club legend by their supporters and the Old Trafford faithful.
