Manchester United emerge as surprise admirers of £40m-valued Newcastle target

Manchester United are reportedly keen admirers of Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes.

That’s according to the Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential newsletter, which states that the Red Devils have shown interest in the Englishman along with West Ham United.

This summer, Newcastle United have been actively pursuing Barnes but are reluctant to meet the Foxes’ £40 million price tag, which could pave the way for another interested club to swoop in.

Barnes’ efforts not enough to save Foxes from the drop

The 25-year-old was somewhat of a bright spark in an overly dismal Leicester side last season – one that suffered relegation on the final day of the campaign. A significant fall from grace after their fairytale story of lifting the Premier League title back in 2016.

Nevertheless, the club are now being overhauled ahead of the new term and they’ll be hoping to secure their promotion back to the top flight as quickly as possible – but they’ll have to do so without numerous key players.

James Maddison has already completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur and now Barnes looks almost certain to exit the King Power in the coming weeks.
