Manchester United accept they’ll have to cut their losses with Harry Maguire but set £50m price tag

Manchester United reportedly value Harry Maguire at £50 million this summer, as per Manchester Evening News.

That’s certainly one way to deter any interested clubs…

United always knew that they’d have to cut their losses with Maguire at some point, but it seems as though they’re trying to recuperate as high a fee as possible if he leaves in this transfer window.

In a way, you can try and see where they’re coming from – he is an experienced centre-back and an established England international, and his performances have never really faltered when representing his nation. However, the chances of any club paying £50m are incredibly slim.

Maguire is now 30 years old and is on the back of a campaign in which he made eight Premier League starts. For a club captain, that’s unheard of.

MEN’s report adds that he will hold talks with the manager and United board in the coming weeks to discuss his uncertain future.

Maguire is reluctant to leave

Reports suggest he is willing to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford but realistically, the only way he finds himself in the starting line-up is if one of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane or Victor Lindelof sustain a long-term injury.

Even then, Erik ten Hag has opted to deploy Luke Shaw at left centre-back on numerous occasions and could well do so again next term.
