Rio Ferdinand convinced Mason Mount has the hunger for Manchester United

Mason Mount signed for Manchester United on Wednesday and Rio Ferdinand is a big fan of the deal.

The midfielder moves from Chelsea in a deal that costs United £55m plus £5m in performance-related add-ons.

Mount, 24, is expected to bolster the midfield depth at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

Erik ten Hag was full of praise for his first signing of the summer transfer window after they posed for photos at Carrington training complex.

The manager told Mount: “I want you to be a very important player for this team.” It genuinely looks like he has always wanted to work with the player, from his short spell at Vitesse in the Netherlands.

Rio Ferdinand is the latest to show his support for the signing and believes that Chelsea will regret their decision.

“Really pleased with Mount coming in, [he’s] young, talented and hungry,” tweeted Ferdinand. “He has the experience of big games with pressure which comes when playing for United.”

“As a player he will bring us goals, creativity, a work ethic and a willing runner into the opposition box.
