Fenerbahce prepare for meetings with David de Gea’s encourage to discuss future

David de Gea has not been linked with many moves across Europe this summer despite his Manchester United contract expired last week.

With speculation focusing on interest from Saudi Arabia, De Gea’s chances of remaining Europe bound were looking bleak. I would have thought they’d have him over in Miami with Lionel Messi but maybe not.

However, a better alternative could be on the cards with Fenerbahce, who according to Fotomac are eyeing a swoop for De Gea after missing out on Dominik Livakovic.

The Turkish side will be playing in the UEFA Conference League and there report claims Fenerbahce are preparing to speak with De Gea’s entourage this week before finding out the keeper’s plans for the future.

There was a time not long ago when it looked like De Gea, who had been at Old Trafford for 12-years, was close to agreeing fresh terms over a new deal.

Reports claim an offer he agreed to was rescinded before a new one was put in its place. The updated proposal contained a package which drastically reduced his pay.

De Gea and his entourage knew this was coming – after years being the world’s highest paid goalkeeper. Especially when in the current setup, which is being spearheaded by Erik ten Hag, the weaknesses in the Spaniard’s game were evident most weeks last season.

Of course, I don’t think there’s any shame in that. I think De Gea has been a fantastic servant for United over the past 12-years but the 32-year-old has unsurprisingly failed to adapt to Ten Hag’s playing style. Surely, on that note alone, finding an agreement with De Gea over a new deal would just hinder the development the manager is trying to make with his team?

Two players making the reports as possible replacements include Inter Milan’s Andre Onana and Robert Sanchez of Brighton.

Who would you like to see come in next season and where do you think De Gea will end up?
