Manchester United will reportedly kickstart their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo in the coming days.
That’s according to Sky Sports, which confirms that the Red Devils made initial contact over a potential transfer this week.
United are now planning a formal approach for the midfielder, who may have been deemed a more suitable option than Mason Mount. The club have seen three bids rejected by Chelsea and given that the Englishman has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, they are unwilling to pay over the odds.
Caicedo, 21, has been heavily linked with Chelsea over the past year after they failed in their pursuit back in January, with Roberto De Zerbi unwilling to sanction a mid-season exit for such a pivotal player. Now, the Ecuadorian is expected to leave Brighton over the summer.
United reignite Caicedo interest
The United board must be kicking themselves, though, as Caicedo is currently valued in the region of £80 million. Back in 2020, they were in talks with his entourage over a five-year deal for a fee of just €5 million – but failed to oversee his arrival despite agreeing personal terms.
Manchester United are in direct contact with the agents of Moises Caicedo (Indep. del Valle).
The agreement on personal terms [5 years] won’t be a problem. €5m price tag.#MUFC ‘control’ the situation by weeks and will decide soon wether to complete the deal or not. 🔴🇪🇨
