Benfica are eyeing a deal for Manchester United’s Alex Telles.
The left-back spent the season on loan with Sevilla and secured a Europa League title throughout his time in Spain.
He will return to Carrington in the coming weeks but is expected to leave again over the summer, and United are hoping to recuperate some funds for him.
Telles was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020 for a fee of around £15.4 million from FC Porto. He rivalled Luke Shaw for the starting role on the left flank but ultimately was not deemed high-quality enough to permanently fill the role. In fact, Erik ten Hag’s first signing last summer was a direct replacement for Telles in the form of Tyrell Malacia.
Across the past season, the Brazilian made 23 starts in all competitions for the Spanish side and a further 15 as a substitute.
He is now unlikely to return to Sevilla and has been deemed a target for both Flamengo and Benfica, the latter of which would mean he is able to continue a career in Europe.
Benfica eye Telles deal
According to Torcedores, Benfica are hoping to acquire Telles on a one-year loan deal before signing him permanently when his contract expires in 2024. United are believed to be against this option, as it would mean they receive no funds for his transfer.
Talks are expected to take place between the two clubs in the coming weeks.
