Leeds United are back in the Championship after three seasons in the Premier League and now, it is being reported that they could look to Old Trafford for reinforcements in their bid to make an immediate return to the top flight.
Amad Diallo, the young Ivorian, was one of the Championship’s outstanding players last season, helping his Sunderland side to the play-off semifinals.
Diallo was part of Erik ten Hag’s first pre-season squad last year but it was decided that first-team football should be prioritised and that seems to have done the player a world of good.
Now, he is becoming increasingly likely to be handed a chance in the first-team set up but it’s far from a guarantee, with the Reds investing heavily in players competing for the same position in recent years.
Wilfried Gnonto, the Italian winger, is thought to be closing in on an exit from Elland Road and according to The Mirror, Diallo has emerged as a possible replacement.
As per the report, Leeds are looking to improve their wide areas and Diallo is likely to leave United on loan. It is, however, stated that Ten Hag would prefer him to join a club abroad or a promoted side.
SN’s verdict…
Almost three years have passed since Diallo signed for the club and the majority of his time at Old Trafford has been difficult. Finally, he looks to have found his feet and is developing rapidly.
It is absolutely paramount that United manage to keep Diallo’s trajectory in its current direction and the next loan move, if that is decided, will be crucial.
A season on the bench at United would do more harm than good.
