Manchester United are not happy with Chelsea as negotiations over a possible transfer of Mason Mount took another setback on Friday.

The Reds made their third offer to sign the England international, but Chelsea rejected the proposal because they’re holding out for an overall fee of £65 million.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s football director John Murtough is understood to have taken a dim view of Chelsea’s strategy of communicating United’s bids through the club’s dedicated correspondents in London.

Sources have told the outlet that Murtough’s “hands are tied” due to United’s finances – so it is clear that the impending takeover is having a negative effect on the club. We need that sorted as soon as possible and hope that the Glazer family are no longer involved with the club.

Chelsea are overvaluing Mount because they overspent on several players in the past year. The 24-year-old is out of contract next year, so United could walk away and try to sign him on a free then.

United should focus on their priority search – for an elite-level centre-forward.

Erik ten Hag will want to club to get a deal completed for Mount soon, but at the same time he won’t want his budget cut when it comes to signing a new goalscorer or goalkeeper.

  1. They want as much as possible, we want to pay as little as possible, what’s to disagree about?
