It’s been quite a busy day for Manchester United on the transfer front as Erik ten Hag’s men look to get things done early, as opposed to last summer’s drawn-out sagas.
A striker is believed to be Ten Hag’s number one priority this summer but the Dutchman is still keen to strengthen other areas, with midfield thought to be one of them.
Mason Mount was earmarked as one of Ten Hag’s main targets and United have already launched three bids for the midfielder but none have been successful.
The latest update revealed that United are now ready to walk away from the deal after growing increasingly frustrated with Chelsea’s reluctance to meet in the middle.
Now, it is being reported that the Reds are preparing to move for another Premier League star after ending their interest in Mount.
That’s according to The Times, who say that Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo is up next on United’s list of priorities and that an offer is being prepared.
As per the report, a move for Caicedo would set United back far more than signing Mount but United have taken Caicedo’s age and contract length into consideration.
It’s claimed that United have held a longstanding interest in Caicedo and have been in touch with the Ecuadorian’s representatives during negotiations for Mount.
United’s interest is now going to intensify as they prepare to make their move, with efforts to sign a striker also thought to be readied.
Caicedo has previously been linked to a number of Premier League clubs, with the promising young midfielder famously attempting to force a move to Arsenal earlier this calendar year.
Brighton did not budge on their intention to keep Caicedo halfway through the 2022/23 season but an exit is far more likely now.
