Manchester United have dropped their interest in signing Mason Mount from Chelsea, according to reports. Erik ten Hag identified the midfielder as a top target but after several failed bids, it seems like United have cooled their interest.
Mount has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and there are no signs of him committing his future to his boyhood club.
Instead, leading European clubs have been alerted and United have reportedly been at the front of the queue for his signature, with Old Trafford officials sending three bids Chelsea’s way.
Now, it is being reported that after failing to reach a middle ground with Chelsea following a third offer, United have now parked their interest and may decide to look elsewhere.
That’s according to The Times, who say that United have refused to improve on their latest offer amid Chelsea’s stubborn stance and high valuation for a player with one season remaining on their deal.
As per the report, United retain sympathy with Mount due to the circumstances of the negotiations and the latest offer, which has been rejected, will remain on the table and a change of heart from Chelsea is still welcomed.
Furthermore, it’s claimed that United believe Chelsea are negotiating in bad faith, with Old Trafford officials suspecting that Todd Boehly’s club is trying to apply ‘Manchester United tax’ to the fee.
Mount is due to report back to Chelsea for the start of pre-season next month but it remains to be seen if any headway has been made by then.
Liverpool signed Mac Allister, a world cup winner and an all round better player than Mount for an initial 45m quid. Kovacic is going to City for 30m and somehow when it comes to Manchester United, clubs want to take the piss. Maybe, just maybe. This club is finally been run properly!
How old are the player that you just mentioned?
