Premier League clubs in race to sign Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United is increasingly uncertain, with the England star falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag this season.

Ten Hag has preferred all of the other three senior centre-backs at the club, with left-back Luke Shaw also picked ahead of Maguire at times.

Maguire has been the subject of intense criticism in recent months and the player is now said to be considering his future. According to reports, there are now Premier League clubs interested in signing him.

That’s according to Football Insider, who say that there are a number of clubs keen on signing the 30-year-old, including three Premier League clubs.

As per the report, if Maguire does decide to put an end to his four-year stay at Old Trafford, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United would all be keen on making a deal.

It is, however, claimed that Maguire remains content with life in Manchester and he is eager to prove his worth during this summer’s pre-season.

It is far from certain that Maguire will be given the chance to do so, however, as it is also claimed that if United sign a new centre-back this year, Maguire runs the risk of slipping further down Ten Hag’s pecking order.

SN’s verdict…
It’s a long way back for Maguire at United and realistically, it’s difficult to see him regaining that first-choice spot he made his own.

It was a dramatic fall from grace for Maguire and the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will be almost impossible to break.

With two years left on his contract, it would make sense for United to sell now and reinvest the money elsewhere.

  1. Maguire (typically) is on a crazy contract. Over 200k apparently now have CL football next season.

United should tell him in no uncertain words that he won’t play at all meaning he will have to leave to stay in England team or he will just hang around on those wages. Who could blame him.
