There is some uncertainty surrounding the future of David de Gea, who doesn’t feature in Manchester United’s official retained list, unlike Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United have sent their retained squad list to the Premier League following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, but De Gea was not included.
However, there is a place for Mason Greenwood, who is currently under internal investigation at the club.
Does this mean Greenwood is about to return?
De Gea’s contract expires this summer, but according to The Athletic United have confirmed they are still in negotiations with the goalkeeper about extending his 12-year stay at Old Trafford.
The report adds that United are looking at goalkeepers in the transfer market, which may suggest that there is more to this story than the club trying to extend De Gea’s contract.
Meanwhile, Phil Jones is leaving after spending 12 years at United. Fellow defender Axel Tuanzebe departs after coming through the academy and captaining the Reds at every level.
Ethan Galbraith and Di’Shon Bernard are both leaving the club after loan spells at Salford City and Portsmouth.
