Qatari media suggest Manchester United takeover is imminent

There was a lot of suggestions on social media last night that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani had made process with his bid to buy Manchester United.

The Qatari banker lodged a fifth offer last week, with his main contender, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, considered the preferred bidder up until this point.

It goes without saying that these bids are completely different. The Qatari consortium — fronted by Sheikh Jassim — are proposal a takeover of the entirety of the club, whereas Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are looking for a majority stake to gain control.

According to Qatari media outlet Al-Watan (cited by The Mirror), which is owned by Sheikh Jassim’s father and former Prime Minister, Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. The publication tweeted on Monday night that an announcement of a deal with the Glazer family would come ‘soon’.

This would suggest that the Glazers have successfully forced Qatar to offer what they wanted all along.

The process has been dragged on, but we could be approaching the end of the Glazers soon.

Only time will tell if Sheikh Jassim has moved ahead, or if Sir Jim Ratcliffe still has a trick up his sleeve, but I would urge caution with believing something that is only coming from Qatar media at the moment.
