Manchester United are set for a busy transfer window this summer, with manager Erik ten Hag earmarking a number of areas he would like to strengthen as he sets his sights on improving on the successful 2022/23 season.

Ten Hag’s maiden campaign at Old Trafford saw him secure a return to the Champions League as well as putting an end to United’s six-year wait for silverware.

A host of stars around Europe have already been heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford but it remains unclear whether United will be able to flex their financial muscles as the club is still going through the uncertainty of a takeover.

In addition to player arriving, it is believed that many of Ten Hag’s first-team regulars will be allowed to depart the club and Scott McTominay, who has been used quite regularly by the Dutchman, is a player who could be set to leave.

The Scotland international has interest from other Premier League clubs and speaking after the season came to an end, he opened up on the playing time and time of reflection as the players recharge their batteries.

“When you’re on your holidays, you need to relax and take it easy, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I’m someone who loves football and I love this club,” McTominay is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

“Whatever happens and however many minutes you play, I’m still going to train hard every single day and give my best for the team and always be there, contribute with some goals every now and again, maybe when you come on, but I feel like, for myself, it’s keep your head down and keep working.”

McTominay started the season in Ten Hag’s first-choice line-up but that quickly changed when Casemiro was embedded, with fellow 2022 summer signing Christian Eriksen occupying the role next to him.

There was still a role for McTominay, however, with Fred instead dropping to the bench for the majority of the second half of the season.

A number of injuries meant that United had to bring in a January reinforcement in the form of Marcel Sabitzer and as things stand, it’s unclear how high McTominay sits on Ten Hag’s pecking order.
