Harry Maguire linked with shock move to Chelsea this summer

Harry Maguire is the latest Manchester United player to be linked with a move away from the club.

The skipper could play his final game for the club this weekend as Manchester United take on Man City in the FA Cup final.

Reports suggest Maguire will hold direct talks with Erik ten Hag to discuss his game time at the end of the season. It is understood that the manager is open minded about keeping the defender, but he will be unable to give assurances over a starting role in the team.

United’s preferred centre-back pairing consists of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, and Maguire has been pushed further down the pecking order by not only Victor Lindelof but Luke Shaw.

We can tell June is going to be a very busy month for United and many other clubs, but especially United as they look to make plans for the summer ahead.

Ten Hag needs to sell a number of players to trim down the squad and comply with Financial Fair Play rules. Getting the likes of Maguire off the wage books should be a priority, as well as finding new owners to run the club.

One player United are making advances to sign is Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. We understand personal terms have been agreed with the player, but the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.

That leads us to a new report from The Sun claiming United could offer Maguire as part of a transfer package to try to sign Mount.

These reports brought a smirk across my face because it is bound to anger Chelsea fans, but without Champions League football next season, Mauricio Pochettino might not be able to attract a better centre-back.

Chelsea’s response to United’s proposal including Maguire should be interesting.
