Rio Ferdinand names four players Manchester United can sell

It is inevitable that we will be saying goodbye to a number of Manchester United players this summer.

We will be approaching Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge and the manager will be hoping to edge closer to Premier League glory. United are also back competing in the UEFA Champions League, so it goes without saying that we need to add more quality to the squad – which fell short in the Europa League this season.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has named four players Ten Hag could sell to make room for other additions such as W88.

Ferdinand told his Vibe with Five podcast: “Scott McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like. If I was him as a young player I would probably start assessing that situation and start having real hard conversations with the club [asking] do you see me as part of it or not. If I’m that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don’t think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value. Harry Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he’s happy to be third or fourth choice. Elanga maybe [is another], he am not getting a chance. Martial has proved that he can’t stay fit. I think if you got rid of those four, there is a £100million sitting there. Elanga isn’t getting the football he deserves. He did well when he came in and still isn’t getting a chance. Big players in front of him but he wants to be playing first team football.”

Manchester United will need to sell players this summer to play by the Financial Fair Play rules, especially if Erik ten Hag plans to make any additions to his squad. That’s why it’s a topic of conversation on Ferdinand’s podcast.

Scott McTominay

I’d rather keep McTominay over Fred.

Harry Maguire

Maguire’s days at Old Trafford are numbered. Victor Lindelof jumped ahead of him in the pecking order this season.

Anthony Elanga

I would be surprised if he made it as a star at United, but I would love to be proven wrong. Could still make use of his strengths on the bench next season.

Anthony Martial

As Ferdinand said, he just can’t stay fit. Ten Hag can’t rely on him.
