Manchester United booked their place in the Champions League next season with an emphatic 4-1 win over Chelsea.
Bruno Fernandes, who netted the third goal of the night, is well aware of United fans’ relief to see Liverpool miss out on qualification for Europe’s elite competition.
The three other Premier League clubs to have made the cut are Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United, who return after a 20-year wait to rub shoulders with the best European clubs.
Post-match, Fernandes was delighted to have cemented a top-four finish and said (via Football Daily): “We know it means a lot for us, it’s all about getting our goals completed, so we did. We know that they [the United fans] will be happy also for Liverpool to not be there [in the top four]. For us, it’s not about that, it’s about getting the best we can for ourselves because we have to look at ourselves.”
