Romano confirms United are surprise candidates in race for Chelsea and Bayern target

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed that the Red Devils are among Chelsea and Bayern Munich in the race for the forward.

The Blues are seemingly already in pursuit of the Serbian, as they look to end their No.9 curse at Stamford Bridge.

United are in a similar boat, though, as we haven’t had a prolific, out-and-out striker since Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney.

This season, our top goalscorer is left-winger Marcus Rashford and he’s yet to break the 30-goal mark, which would make him the first United player to do so since Van Persie in the 2012/2013 campaign.

Stretty News’ verdict

Vlahovic has found the back of the net 14 times this season and his form has often fluctuated across the season, so there are certainly better options out there.

With United’s situation at the moment, it’s not really a time to take a punt on new signings. If we want even a chance at competing with Manchester City next season and the likes of Erling Haaland, we need a centre-forward that’s able to match his level as best as possible week in, week out.

Whilst he is significantly older, there’s not really a more proven option than Harry Kane. He won’t come cheap, but he’s on the back of a 30-goal season (subject to change if he scores on the final day), would drastically change the setup at Old Trafford and would make us real contenders again.
