Raphael Varane has enjoyed his first term working under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman’s first season of his tenure is drawing to a close, and what a rollercoaster it’s been; days of elation like the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, the home victories over Manchester City and Liverpool and that two-legged tie over Barcelona, but also ones to forget. However, through it all it’s been important to remember that progress isn’t linear and if the Reds are able to seal a top-four finish in the coming weeks, it’ll round off an overly positive campaign and make supporters optimistic for what’s to come after the summer.
June 3rd holds the chance for Ten Hag to add a second trophy under his belt when United take on rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final – a fixture that has both sets of fans feeling anxious about the outcome.
Should he stop their treble charge, it’ll only cement his status more among the Old Trafford faithful.
Varane on Ten Hag’s first season
Ahead of the final matches, Varane weighed in on life under Ten Hag and how quickly the side adapted to his demands. Speaking via Football Daily, the centre-back said: “I think it’s been a great season with him. From day one, he was clear in his reasoning and explanations of what he wanted from us and how he wanted us to play.
“We’ve learnt his style and I think it’s come together well.”
