Lisandro Martinez will not join up with the Argentina national team for their tour in June.

That’s according to Gaston Edul, who has reported that Martinez is hoping to return to full fitness by July 12, ready for Manchester United’s pre-season.

The Red Devils will embark on a summer tour, mainly in the United States, where they’ll face several opponents in different cities across July and ahead of the 2023/2024 campaign.

It was announced today that the tour will kickstart with a match against Olympique Lyonnais in Edinburgh on July 19, giving Martinez a week to prepare for his return to action.

Other fixtures include taking on Arsenal in New Jersey, National League winners Wrexham AFC in San Diego, Real Madrid in Texas and Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas.

All players get a chance to shine on tour

Whilst our stalwart centre-back will likely be utilised across the month, these games provide Erik ten Hag with a chance to deploy younger players or new signings to gauge the involvement they may have next season and how well they fit into a first-team setup, as well as monitor fitness levels.

Martinez has been sorely missed since he sustained a metatarsal injury last month, so fans will be delighted to see him back in red ahead of another pivotal campaign under Ten Hag’s reign.
