Manchester United midfielder sees season end abruptly with knee injury amid top-four run-in

Manchester United have been dealt a fresh injury blow in the form of Marcel Sabitzer.

The Austrian will not feature for the Red Devils again this season after sustaining a meniscal (knee) injury.

Sabitzer made a cameo off the bench during the Reds’ 1-0 loss to West Ham United last week, which saw him ruled out of Saturday’s home clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It now leaves fans wondering if they’ve seen the last of the midfielder in red, as he will return to Bayern Munich in June when his loan deal expires, having made 18 appearances and scoring three goals.

According to Laurie Whitwell, both United and Bayern are in contact regarding his treatment and they are yet to make a concrete decision on his future.

Erik ten Hag will consequently be left even shorter in his squad options for the remainder of the campaign, in which United must seal a top-four finish and try to overturn rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3.
