Manchester United could have an edge over Liverpool in their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentinian is set for a summer move after an outstanding campaign with the Seagulls that sees them in contention to play European football next season.

Mac Allister has played a pivotal and irreplaceable role at the heart of their midfield throughout, and now has clubs lining up for his signature when the transfer window opens.

He also received plaudits following his performances at the World Cup last year, in which he was crowned a world champion after starting six matches across the tournament.

The race for Mac Allister

The Red Devils look set to rival their fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool, who are in dire need of midfield reinforcements, in the race for the midfielder.

Brighton will know there is little they can do to stop Mac Allister exiting the Amex, but they’ll certainly ensure he’s attached with a hefty price tag to get their money’s worth from a deal.

Today, a report by The Athletic stated that playing in the Champions League is “the target” for the 24-year-old.

Of the two English sides interested, United may be the only team that fits his desires should they see out a top-four finish.

The Reds sit fourth and currently lead the Merseyside club by four points ahead of their away trip to Leicester City tonight, where they can close the gap to one point – but they will have played one more match.
