Sunderland manager hails Amad Diallo after stunning free-kick in play-offs

Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo is having a season to remember at Sunderland. The winger scored a stunning free-kick in the Championship play-offs semi-final first leg against Luton on Saturday.

Amad equalised the scoring at 1-1 with a curling effort from outside the box, which has led to Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray calling the promising prospect a ‘magician’.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed himself at Sunderland and you can guarantee that they’d take him back next season, should United decide to loan him out again.

However, Erik ten Hag may need to think twice before loaning out Amad next term. He has found the back of the net on 14 occasions so far this season.

Amad’s goal against Luton on Saturday led to a 2-1 win for the Black Cats. Trai Hume scored the winner ahead of Sunderland’s trip to Kenilworth Road for the second leg on Tuesday evening.

Tony Mowbray called Amad a ‘magician’ after the match, saying (via Manchester Evening News): “Amad, he’s a magician with his left peg and he’s scored many goals like that this season.

“So it’s no surprise to anybody. It was a great goal.

“2-1 into the next leg, but nobody is getting carried away. We know how tough it is at Luton, they flood your box, they’ve got lots of big players and you’ve got to try and deny them set plays and corners.

“They showed tonight they’re a good football team, they moved the ball around well, and they’ve got some very athletic players and some talented individuals. We have to get ready and start feeling as if it’s 0-0 and go to Luton and try and get a positive result.”

We are wishing Amad all the best ahead of the second leg. Maybe he can get on the scoresheet again…
