Erik ten Hag comments on Amad Diallo’s future after stunning Sunderland loan

Erik ten Hag has commented on Amad Diallo’s future at Manchester United after the young Ivorian’s stunning season-long loan at Sunderland, which has seen him end the regular season with 13 goals.

Diallo immediately became a fan-favourite at the Stadium of Light and he is now looking to guide the club back to the Premier League, with Tony Mowbray’s men set for the Championship play-offs.

Diallo was part of Ten Hag’s pre-season squad last summer but it was decided that a season out on loan would be more beneficial for the winger, who is now reaping the benefits from regular first-team action.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Wolves, Ten Hag said that Amad’s future is at United and that the club is keeping track of all of their players out on loan.

“Yes, of course, we loan such players to make development and progress to bring them back, that is the aim of the loan,” Ten Hag said when quizzed on Amad, according to the Manchester Evening News.

“They are really strong, we mentor them, we follow them, we have communication over the season, especially Darren Fletcher, who invests a lot in such a process. The aim is to bring them back as a better player with experience.”

SN’s verdict…
It’s going to be difficult for Diallo to break into the first-team at United immediately when he returns from loan but if Sunderland do get promoted, another loan could be looked that.

That would give Amad invaluable Premier League appearances before returning to United the year after as a ready-made winger in the division.

As things stand, competition for places in Diallo’s position is fierce at Old Trafford, with Antony, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri all competing for one spot.
