Manchester United are preparing for their second away trip of the week when taking on West Ham United at the London Stadium this Sunday.
The game now has added pressure after last night’s affairs. It’s not a must-win technically, but it really should be nothing less than one.
United have made a top-four finish considerably harder for themselves now having picked up just four points out of the nine available in the past three matches.
It almost seems like the players have already switched off for the season, which is concerning given how the table is looking and the fact that Manchester City are in the form of their lives ahead of the FA Cup final next month.
However, I don’t doubt that Erik ten Hag has given them all a rollicking after Thursday’s defeat, so this weekend provides a chance to bounce back quickly.
How West Ham fare
The Irons are on a three-game winless streak and still haven’t been deemed safe from the dreaded drop just yet. They sit 15th-placed and are four points ahead of Nottingham Forest, who are 18th.
West Ham were, however, able to match Arsenal stride-for-stride on April 23 when they came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with their London rivals, putting a significant dent in the Gunners’ title hopes.
The reverse fixture between the sides ended 1-0 to the Reds at Old Trafford last October. The only goal of the game was scored by Marcus Rashford, marking his 100th career goal.
