Roberto De Zerbi believes his Brighton side deserved their 1-0 win over Manchester United with a late penalty, after ‘unfairly’ losing to the Reds in the FA Cup semi-final.
Alexis Mac Allister scored a 99th minute winner from a penalty after Luke Shaw handled the ball from a corner.
We still don’t know why Shaw’s hand was up in the air, although Erik ten Hag raised a good point in his post-match interview about why the officials got it wrong – by awarding a soft free-kick before the corner.
De Zerbi says Brighton deserved to win at Wembley and tonight’s win was some justice for the FA Cup heartbreak last month.
“I’m really happy and delighted for the performance and result,” De Zerbi told Sky Sports.
“I think there is a God of Football because in the semi-final we deserved to win and we lost on penalties, and today we won with a penalty for us.
“In both games I think we played better than United and the last result was unfair.”
