Three Reds make United’s Player of the Month shortlist for April

Three Reds are in contention to win Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for April.

A hectic four weeks saw the Reds play a whopping nine fixtures in three different competitions, seeing out some crucial results as we near the end of the season.

United, unfortunately, bowed out of Europe after a quarter-final Europa League defeat to Sevilla. However, the Reds booked their place in the FA Cup final, which will take place on June 3rd against Manchester City, as well as significantly strengthened their grip on a Premier League top-four finish.

Three players, in particular, have been highlighted for their efforts and contributions across the month.

Bruno Fernandes

The vice-captain, as always, has been absolutely invaluable and irreplaceable at the heart of the midfield. Fernandes was suspended for the second leg of United’s quarter-final against Sevilla and there’s a chance the result may have gone entirely differently should he have started, as his leadership and creativity were sorely missed. Still, he has provided exactly that in the games he did feature in.

Fernandes netted the only goal of the game in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa – the 100th of his career.

Victor Lindelof

The Swede has been thrown in at the deep end for the run-in due to Raphael Varane’s and Lisandro Martinez’s injury issues. Despite his lack of regular game time this season, Lindelof has been absolutely faultless lately. Whether he’s paired with Harry Maguire or Luke Shaw, he gets the job done and has greatly contributed to David de Gea’s Golden Glove pursuit, especially after his goalline clearance at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Lindelof scored the winning penalty to send the Reds to the FA Cup final at Wembley a fortnight ago, and what a finish it was!

Luke Shaw

Erik ten Hag has unearthed an unlikely gem in Luke Shaw when playing him at left centre-back; the Red Devils are unbeaten in all of the nine matches that the Englishman has started in the position in a back two. It’s astounding how comfortable he looks in the new role and how quickly he’s adapted despite the high-pressure matches.

Shaw is the exact kind of player managers wants at their disposal; versatile and willing to do anything to help the team.
