Manchester United winger has vowed to maintain his steady rise at the club following an encouraging couple of weeks – arguably the best period he has enjoyed since he made the big-money move from Ajax at the end of last summer’s transfer window.

Antony became the first United player to score in each of his first three Premier League games for the club but his fourth did not arrive until the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

In between those goals, Antony has helped the Reds to a number of victories in cup competitions, including a stunning winner against Barcelona in the Europa League.

The Brazil international has been the subject of intense criticism from all corners this season but speaking after impressing over several weeks, the 23-year-old has vowed to keep improving.

“I always have to improve a lot as well,” Antony told ICS, via the official Manchester United website.

“I expect a lot of myself. There have been a lot of goals and assists, and I’m very happy with that, but there is a lot still to come.

“Absolutely, we have very difficult games. We are in a fight. Our objective is to get into the Champions League, it’s a very clear objective that we are working towards.

“Manchester United is a great club. When I came here, I was hoping to win titles [trophies] and one is a great thing but it’s an even better thing to have the chance to possibly be able to win two.”

SN’s verdict…
Antony’s maiden campaign at Old Trafford has definitely been a rollercoaster of emotions but that will put him in good stead going into his second season.

It must be remembered that he is only 23 and the first season in the Premier League can be challenging even for the greatest footballers.

His talent has shone through this season and with Ten Hag set to initiate phase two of his rebuild this summer, it’s fair to expect that Antony will be among the players to benefit from that when next season begins.
